Doyle Headed To The Farm

Gabrielle Doyle will transfer to Stanford for the 2027 campaign

STANFORD, Calif. – Gabrielle Doyle has transferred to Stanford for the 2027 campaign and will have two years of eligibility remaining, as announced Tuesday by Dunlevie Family Director of Women’s Water Polo John Tanner.

Doyle, who helped lead Hawai’i to back-to-back NCAA appearances during her first two collegiate seasons, boasts an impressive all-around game, elite academics, and international experience - all of which make her a perfect fit on The Farm.

A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Doyle was the recipient of this year’s NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, presented annually to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the national championship site. Doyle, who carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Business, is the Rainbow Wahine’s third straight honoree of the nation’s most prestigious academic award.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Gabrielle to Stanford and our team,” said Tanner, who in 29 seasons has led the Cardinal to 10 NCAA championships and a 681-99 overall record. “She has substantial high-level water polo experience, including two senior World Aquatics Championship tournaments, and two NCAA appearances at Hawai’i. She is the kind of dynamic, end-to-end player who embraces all facets of the game, in addition to being a super student, that will make her a great fit with the world class scholar-athletes currently in our program.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join Stanford and be part of such an accomplished program,” said Doyle. "I’m excited to challenge myself, grow alongside my teammates, and proudly represent the school."

A member of the 2025 Big West All-Freshman Team, Doyle concluded her career at Hawai’i having competed in 49 games while totaling 40 goals, 27 assists, 98 shots and 63 steals. As a sophomore in 2026, Doyle led the team in sprint wins (13), finished second in steals (29), third in assists (17) and fourth in goals (25).

Doyle also brings a wealth of international experience, most notably as a member of the New Zealand Senior National Team that competed in the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha. Doyle, who also competed with the New Zealand U20 and U18 national teams, attended Rangitoto College in Auckland, where she was honored as the 2024 Sports Person of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Doyle is the Cardinal’s third transfer in as many seasons, following Sienna Green from UCLA in 2026 and Juliette Dhalluin from Arizona State in 2025. Stanford has found immediate success in developing transfers and seamlessly integrating them into a system and culture, as Dhalluin and Green were both named All-Americans this past year. In particular, Dhalluin was named a first-team All-American and is one of three finalists for the Peter J. Cutino Award, presented to the nation’s most outstanding collegiate water polo player.

The nation’s only program to have participated in all 25 NCAA Championships since the event’s inception in 2001, Stanford (15-2, 5-1 MPSF) reached the NCAA semifinals in 2026. The Cardinal produced another impressive season, highlighted by its ninth MPSF title and fourth in the past five years. Ranked No. 1 in the country for most of the season, Stanford swept three meetings against UCLA, defeated California twice and beat USC in the conference final. Stanford also captured the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, securing its fourth tournament title in five seasons.
