STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford and Penn State – two of the country’s top women's volleyball programs – are set to square off at the historic Palestra on Friday, September 11. The match will be hosted in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Palestra.
This will be the 28th overall meeting between the two programs and the first since the 2022 season. The Cardinal holds a 14-13 advantage in the all-time series. The teams rank first and second all-time in national titles with Stanford on top with nine, followed by Penn State's eight.
“We are thrilled to be resuming our rivalry with Penn State and are honored to share the court with the Nittany Lions in celebration of 100 years of the Palestra.,” said Kevin Hambley, The Montag Family Director of Women's Volleyball.
It will be Stanford’s first known visit to the Palestra and serve as the centerpiece to the team’s east coast road trip that week. Penn State will visit the Palestra for just the second time in program history. Penn State Head Coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, however, is no stranger to the historic venue. She called the Palestra home as head coach of the Penn Volleyball team during the 2017 season.
“I am incredibly excited for our team and for the sport of volleyball to have the opportunity to compete in such a historic venue. Celebrating 100 years, The Palestra has been the home to countless unforgettable moments in college athletics, and it is truly one of the most iconic arenas in the country,” said Schumacher-Cawley.
Game time, television information and ticket details will be announced at a later date.
