STANFORD, Calif. – Six Stanford men’s rowers will represent their countries at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany from July 23-26.
Four current Cardinal were members of Stanford’s varsity eight last season in Tom Corbett, Elliott Donovan-Davies, Gabriel George and Sandro Scalfi.
Stanford’s first varsity placed sixth overall at the IRA National Championship on Gold River’s Lake Natoma. The performance secured the Cardinal its 11th top-six finish in program history and just second since 2010. Stanford made the A Final of a full-field national championship for the first time since 2009.
Donovan-Davies and George were IRCA first-team All-Americans and Scalfi was named to the second team.
Also in Duisburg will be a pair of incoming Cardinal in the United States’ Tony Madigan and France’s Odysseas Tubidis.
Stanford is coming off a season in which it was fifth in the Ten Eyck Trophy points standings at the IRA National Championship with 209 points, tying a program record for best finish with another fifth-place result in 2009. The Cardinal was awarded the Clayton Chapman Trophy at the conclusion of racing, which is given to the school that accumulates the greatest year-over-year increase in its Ten Eyck total point count.
