Chatain, Fetter and Wright in U.S. boats; Tubidis a spare for France

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s rowing alumni Peter Chatain, James Fetter and James Wright will race for the United States at the upcoming 2026 World Rowing Championships from August 24-30 in Amsterdam.

Chatain is entered in the men’s four and mixed eight, Fetter in the men’s double sculls and Wright in the men’s quadruple sculls. Incoming freshmen Odysseas Tubidis will also be in the Netherlands as a spare for France.

A bronze medalist in the eight at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chatain was the Pac-12 Men’s Rower of the Year in 2021 and a two-time, first-team IRCA All-American at Stanford. This will be his sixth national team appearance.

Fetter will be making his third international appearance for the United States after finishing 10th in the quadruple sculls at the 2025 U23 World Championships and eighth in the single sculls at the U23 World Championships in 2024. He was a first-team IRCA All-American in 2025.

Wright will be making his senior national team debut in Amsterdam. Recently, he was fifth at World Rowing Cup II in the double in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in mid-June, and previously won silver as part of the United States men's eight at the 2022 U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy. Wright was the 2019 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, a second-team IRCA All-American in 2021 and a first-team All-American in 2022.

On The Farm, Stanford is coming off a season in which it was fifth in the Ten Eyck Trophy points standings at the IRA National Championship with 209 points, tying a program record for best finish with another fifth-place result in 2009. The Cardinal was awarded the Clayton Chapman Trophy at the conclusion of racing, which is given to the school that accumulates the greatest year-over-year increase in its Ten Eyck total point count.
