Former and current Cardinal women's rowers made a splash at the 2026 Senior World Rowing Championships, held Aug. 24-30 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
In total, five Stanford-associated rowers earned eight top-10 finishes in six boat classes for four countries and brought home two World Championships medals.
Highlighting Stanford's success in the Netherlands was USA rower Azja Czajkowski '23, who won her second consecutive world title in the Women’s Four and a bronze medal in the Mixed Eight race. The US Women's Four boat set a world record en route to their gold-medal finish, posting a time of 6:09.87, almost five seconds faster than the previous world record (6:14.36).
Current Stanford rower Célia Dupré, rowing for Switzerland, excelled again in international competition after two top-10 finishes at the event a year ago. This year, the Plan-les-ouates, Geneva native led the Swiss Mixed Double Sculls to a fourth-place performance and the Women's Quadruple Sculls boat to place seventh overall, dominating the B-Final by nearly a two-second margin of victory.
Both Luise and Annabelle Bachmann raced for their home country of Germany at the event, bringing home four top-10 finishes between the pair. Luise competed in the Women's Pair, earning a seventh-place finish and a first-place effort in the B final by nearly a four-second margin, while Annabelle competed in the German Women's Four race, placing sixth overall. Both sisters raced in Germany's Women's Eights boat, finishing ninth.
Lastly, Beckie Leigh '24 raced for New Zealand in both the Women's 4x and the Women's 8+ boats. New Zealand's Women's Quadruple Sculls boat finished 14th while the New Zealand Women's Eight boat placed 6th overall.
