PHILADELPHIA – No. 4 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 12 Penn State, 25-27, 20-25, 21-25, Friday, at The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Stanford (4-2) out hit Penn State (5-1) .206 to .192 and held a 6.0 to 4.5 edge in blocks. The Nittany Lions finished with 46 kills, four aces and a 56-42 advantage in digs.
Outside hitter Julia Blyashov recorded a team-high 10 kills to lead Stanford. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt added eight kills, a dig and a block.
Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew totaled five kills on .333 hitting, four blocks and three digs. Opposite Jordyn Harvey chipped in with six kills, eight digs, two blocks and two aces.
Setter Logan Parks finished with 14 assists, three digs, a block and a season-high five kills in one and a half sets played. Junior Lilly Wagner replaced Parks in the second, totaling 10 assists, three digs, two kills and a block.
Libero Spencer Etzler tied for a match-high 13 digs and notched six assists. Freshman Ella Andrews recorded a pair of kills and a pair of blocks.
Stanford and Penn State are now even in the all-time series at 14-14. Penn hosted the Cardinal and Nittany Lions as part of the 100-year celebration of the historic Palestra.
Stanford closes out the week on Sunday against Ohio in State College, Pennsylvania. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on B1G+.
