FRISCO, Texas — The 2026-27 season began for the defending national champions as Stanford women’s golf opened its campaign at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at PGA Frisco. Blistering conditions on the course led to elevated scores across the board, with the Cardinal ending the day in sixth after the first two rounds of competition.
Six of the top women’s programs in the country began their seasons on Monday in scorching conditions. Temperatures reached 100 degrees during the heat of the day, and even at sunset, temperatures were still in the 90s. That made 36 holes of golf a grind, and it wore on the entire field. Despite six teams being ranked in the top-11 in Golf Channel’s preseason poll, only two teams finished the day better than par: No. 10 South Carolina (-9) and No. 7 Wake Forest (-8).
Perhaps the most consistent golfer of the day for the Cardinal was Meja Örtengren, who avoided mistakes to keep herself around par for a majority of Monday’s action. She began her day with a birdie on 10, where all the Card started the first round, and added another on 16 for her lone birdies of the round. She opened with a 1-over 73 before transitioning to the afternoon, where she added three birdies, including consecutive birdies on 10 and 11. That kept her even with par, to finish the day one stroke over par, tying her for 12th in the field.
The top-ranked amateur in the world, Andrea Revuelta, was also largely consistent on Monday, but she had a few holes that hurt her day. She was 1-under during her first nine of the day, but then struggled at the turn with a four-over on the par-5 first hole, which is why her opening round ended with a 75 (+3). She then went for a double bogey on that same hole to begin the second round despite playing even at par over her next 17 holes. She is five strokes over par through two rounds.
Stanford got its first look at Anna Song and Jude Lee as potential regular options in the Cardinal’s lineup, and it was Lee who played better of the two. She had four birdies on the day and finished 9-over through two rounds, with scores of 76 and 77.
The final round of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup begins for the Cardinal at 10:24 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning. Golf Channel will begin live coverage at 1 p.m. PT, including the trophy presentation to the individual medalist. Stanford will then be paired up for match play on Wednesday. If their current position on the leaderboard holds, Stanford would face eighth-ranked Florida State.
