TULSA, Okla. – The opening event is in the books for the Stanford men’s tennis program, which sent three athletes to the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hudson Rivera and Alex Razeghi participated in the main singles draw, while Ronit Karki made his Stanford debut in the pre-qualifying phase.
Rivera opened the main draw with a defeat in the round of 64, but he rallied for a victory over Baylor’s No. 94 Erik Schiessl in the consolation round of 32 in three sets, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (5). The win was the sixth ranked victory in Rivera’s career and his 11th win in three sets. Seeded No. 15, Razeghi, an All-ACC honoree a year ago in singles and doubles, fell in the main draw round of 64 and withdrew prior to the consolation bracket beginning.
Karki picked up his first singles triumph in Cardinal in the pre-qualifying round of 128, defeating Boise State’s Arsene Pougault in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, before falling in the pre-qualifying round of 64.
Stanford men’s tennis returns to action from Oct. 1-4 at Battle in the Bay in San Francisco. The next opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, held Oct. 15-20 in Seattle.
