DALLAS – No. 12 Stanford fell in its ACC opener at No. 5 SMU, 25-22, 25-13, 25-16, Friday, at Moody Coliseum.
Stanford (7-4, 0-1 ACC) was held to a season-low .103 attack percentage, while SMU (9-2, 1-0 ACC) hit .407 as a team. The Mustangs out blocked the Cardinal 11.0 to 5.0 and held a 41-24 advantage in digs.
Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew hit .400 with six kills on 15 errorless swings, three blocks and two digs. Outside hitter Julia Blyashov finished with a team-best seven kills and five digs.
Setter Logan Parks totaled 13 assists, two digs, an ace and a solo block. Junior Lilly Wagner came off the bench in the second and third sets, adding eight assists and a block.
Outside hitter Ipar Kurt notched five kills and three blocks, while opposite Jordyn Harvey turned in four kills, four digs and an ace. Freshman middle blocker Ella Andrews chipped in with two kills and a block.
Libero Spencer Etzler recorded five digs, two assists and two aces. Junior Malyssa Cawa tallied four digs.
SMU was led by middle blocker Natalia Newsome, who hit .909 with 10 kills on 11 errorless swings to go with a match-high six blocks. Outside hitter Suli Davis registered a match-best 18 kills on .342 hitting, six digs and three blocks.
Stanford wraps up the opening weekend of conference play on Sunday at No. 2 Pittsburgh. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
