DAVIS, Calif. – No. 2 Stanford moved to 10-1 on the season this afternoon, taking down No. 16 UC Davis on the road 15-8. Ben Forer and James Rozolis-Hill each scored three goals, and Bernardo Herzer kept up his hot streak in goal with 10 saves.
The Cardinal jumped out to a first-period lead, holding a 4-2 advantage at the first break. Four different players scored for Stanford, and Botond Balogh led with two assists. Ryan Ohl provided the exclamation point however, scoring with one second left on the clock to send the Card into the break with momentum.
Stanford rattled off three-straight goals to open the second, including a second score from Ohl. The Aggies scored with 2:41 left in the half to snap the four-goal run, but by that point the Cardinal was ahead 7-3. Once again, Stanford scored just as the period was ending. This time it was James Rozolis-Hill scoring with three seconds left to make it an 8-3 lead at halftime.
Bernardo Herzer made eight first-half saves, as the Card kept UC Davis scoreless on five powerplay opportunities.
Just like the second period, the third opened with a Cardinal flurry. Ben Forer and Aleh Gheorghe both scored within the first minute and a half to make it a 10-3 game. After the Aggies scored to make it 10-4, Forer and Gheorghe again struck for a pair of goals to make it 12-4. The goal was Forer’s third of the game, leading all scorers.
Balogh added his first goal of the game after another UC Davis score, making it 13-5. Then Rozolis-Hill scored his third of the day to make it 14-5.
Herzer exited the game after three periods with 10 saves, his fifth-consecutive game with double-digit stops. Through 10 games this season, Herzer is averaging 11.1 saves per game with 111 total.
The Aggies cut into the lead in the fourth, but Stanford’s lead held as the Card moved to 10-1 on the season.
The Cardinal is on the road next, heading south for a pivotal MPSF weekend. Stanford takes on No. 1 UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 3, then takes on No. 3 USC on Sunday, Oct. 4. Both games are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. PT, and can be streamed on Overnght.
