NEW ORLEANS – After starting the 2026-27 year with singlehanded competitions last weekend, the Cardinal's campaign began in force this weekend. Stanford topped the Sugar Bowl, hosted by Tulane, with a dominant team effort.
“College sailing is all about adapting to tricky conditions and New Orleans is one of the best venues to learn that," said assistant coach Shawn Harvey. "Big thanks to our captain, Alice, for setting the example and leading the way for this young group! The future is bright.”
Stanford finished first in the three-team field with 75 points, well clear of the 135 that earned second for Tulane. One of the Card's three boats finished first in each of the weekend's eight races.
Alice Schmid and Avery Peterson competed in the A boat, finishing first with 20 points thanks to four victories. Ava McAlily and Kate Myles had the B boat, coming second with three first-place finishes of their own.
The C boat of freshmen Audrey Russler and Hannah Crompton finished third with 30 points, coming in first once.
Next up for the Cardinal is a weekend that will see the team compete at three regattas – the Match Race PCCSC Championships, the Danmark Trophy and the Women's ACC Round One.
