STANFORD, Calif. — Jay Leng led the Cardinal contingency as the Stanford men’s golf team wrapped up the third round of action at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab on Tuesday. Leng, who shot 1-over during the tournament’s final round, propelled Stanford to a tied-14th place finish in one of the nation’s toughest men’s collegiate golf fields to date.
Leng, who entered the day at 6-over following a bounceback second round during Monday’s 36-hole marathon, led the Cardinal on the final day with a 1-over, 71 card, finishing his day with four birdies. The Cardinal junior wrapped up his second tournament of the season at 7-over and tied for 32nd overall in one of the deepest fields of the season.Â
Following Leng, freshman Giovanni Binaghi finished at 4-over during the final round, grabbing three birdies to end the tournament at 8-over par. The freshman secured Stanford’s only sub-70 round on Monday and finished the two-day tournament with seven birdies and an eagle, claiming a tie for 38th overall.Â
Shooting a 3-over, 73 card on Tuesday, Edan Cui did well to move up the leaderboard during the final round, shooting even-par on 15 holes. The sophomore shot up 10 places during the final round as he ended his tournament with five birdies in 54 holes and placed inside the top 60 in a tie for 57th overall.Â
Cooper Stearns and Carlo Roman also shot well for the Cardinal, claiming fourth and fifth in the order, respectively. Stearns finished his tournament in 76th while claiming three birdies during the competition while Roman grabbed four birdies on his account, finishing 77th overall.Â
Stanford is back in action to complete the fall slate in just over two weeks, heading out to Georgia to take part in the GOlf Club of Georgia Collegiate from October 16-18.
