NEWTON, Mass. — Anya Jackson recorded seven saves to highlight a strong afternoon, but two second-half goals proved the difference as the Stanford field hockey team fell to Boston College on Sunday, 3-0.
Jackson and the Cardinal started well on the afternoon as the former collected two saves early in regulation to keep the Cardinal on level terms. Offensively, Stanford (9-7, 1-6 ACC) earned the first two penalty corners of the afternoon, pressing for the game-opening goal with a plethora of chances. However, the BC defense held firm as the first quarter came to a close in a scoreless tie.Â
With both sides pressuring well to grab the opening tally, Boston College (7-9, 2-5 ACC) broke open the scoring with a tally on a penalty corner late in the half. Though Stanford continued to press, the Cardinal defense held firm when needed as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime.Â
Coming out of the break, Stanford showed well, knifing its way through the BC defense for its lone shot of the frame. However, Stanford was unable to capitalize as BC went the other way and doubled the lead on a second-chance opportunity. Having grabbed four saves through the opening half, Jackson tallied three additional saves in the third to keep the Cardinal within reach.
With the match heading into the fourth quarter, Stanford continued chipping away at the Eagles, finding opportunities in the offensive end. However, another penalty corner tally early in the frame gave the hosts a 3-0 lead. Though the Cardinal continued to pressure, ending the match with a player advantage, Stanford could not find the back of the cage, falling to Boston College in its penultimate Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matchup, 3-0.Â
Stanford is back in action for its final home match of the season, celebrating the 2026 senior class for Senior Night against Cal on Thursday, October 30. First strike against the Golden Bears is slated for 6 p.m. PT.
