Stanford Secures First ACC Win

Cardinal sweeps Virginia Tech

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by Jordyn Harvey and Lizzy Andrew, No. 13 Stanford swept Virginia Tech, 25-16, 25-23, 25-14, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Playing on The Farm for the first time since Sept. 6, Stanford (8-5, 1-2 ACC) hit .276 as a team while holding Virginia Tech (4-8, 1-2 ACC) to a .064 clip – the second lowest by a Cardinal opponent this season.

Harvey led the team with 17.0 points, registering a match-high 12 kills to go with three aces, four blocks and three digs. Andrew hit .375 with nine kills, two aces and a match-best five blocks.

Setter Logan Parks controlled the offense with 29 assists and had two kills and eight digs. Libero Spencer Etzler posted her second consecutive 20-dig match and tallied five assists and an ace.

Outside hitters Julia Blyashov and Kaci Demaria combined for 12 kills, six digs and two blocks. Freshman middle blocker Ella Andrews chipped in with three blocks and a kill, while defensive specialist Malyssa Cawa added seven digs.

With a sizeable lead in the third set, Montag Family Director of Women’s Volleyball Kevin Hambly went to the bench. Freshman Joy Udoye made her Stanford debut, recording a kill on match point.

Freshmen Simone Roslon and Sarah Hickman also entered the match with Roslon notching two digs and a kill. Junior Sidney Duncan replaced Andrew late in the third, adding a kill, while sophomore Zaria Queen subbed in for Harvey and had a dig.

Stanford improved to 3-0 all-time against Virginia Tech, sweeping the Hokies in all three meetings.

The Cardinal closes out the weekend on Saturday, hosting Virginia at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
