Cardinal in Illinois for Windy City Classic

Stanford looking for first stroke play win of new season

  • Stanford women’s golf is back in action on Monday and Tuesday, competing in the Windy City Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
  • All teams will play 36 holes of golf on Oct. 5 and finish with the third round on Oct. 6.
  • This event is played at Lake Shore Country Club and is set to be a par-71 (6,361 yards).
  • Stanford is in the first wave of teams to tee off on Monday, set to begin at 5:30 a.m. PT.
  • Last year, the Cardinal sent two individuals to the Windy City Classic: Kelly Xu and Nora Sundberg. Xu finished tied for sixth after holding a share of the lead entering the final round, while Sundberg shot -4 over her final two rounds to tie for 25th
  • In its most recent competition, the Cardinal defeated California 4-0 in the seventh annual Big Match. The women’s and men’s programs teamed up in best-ball, mixed match play. It was Stanford’s third consecutive Big Match win, improving to 4-3 all-time in the event.
  • The only stroke play tournament Stanford has competed in this year came to kick off the season. Stanford finished sixth in the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, missing the match play portion of the tournament.
  • Meja Örtengren finished one stroke shy of individual medalist honors thanks to a 68 (-4) in the final round, which was the lowest round of the day and tied for the lowest across all three rounds.
  • After dropping a match play event to San Jose State on March 2, Stanford did not suffer a loss the rest of the 2025-26 season. The Cardinal won the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate, ACC Championship, NCAA Stanford Regional, and both the stroke play and match play portions of the NCAA Championship.
  • Stanford’s NCAA Championship was the program’s third in five years and its fourth overall. The Cardinal trails only Arizona State (8) and Duke (7) for the most in NCAA history.
  • Over the summer, both Paula Martín Sampedro and Andrea Revuelta moved into the top spot of the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Martín Sampedro took over first in the rankings on Aug. 26 before Revuelta overtook her on Sept. 2. They currently sit as the second and third-ranked world amateurs entering this tournament.
  • Heading into the season, three Cardinal were named Preseason All-Americans: Martín Sampedro, Örtengren, and Revuelta. All three are also on the ANNIKA Award Preseason Watchlist.
  • Stanford’s lineup for the Windy City Classic is as follows: Meja Örtengren, Nikki Oh, Anna Song, Andrea Revuelta, and Paula Martín Sampedro. Nora Sundberg is competing as an individual.
