STANFORD, Calif. - Brian Campbell has been named Stanford’s Chief Athletics Advancement Officer, as announced on Thursday by Jaquish & Kenninger Director and Chair of Athletics John Donahoe.
Campbell will lead the DAPER advancement team while serving on both the department’s Executive Leadership team and the Office of Development’s (OOD) Development Leadership Council.
"Brian is a highly respected and energetic leader who is passionate about maximizing the student-athlete experience in every way,” said Donahoe. “In addition to having an impressive track record as a fundraiser, Brian’s knowledge of the modern college athletics landscape and his collaborative approach will make a clear impact for Stanford Athletics. We are thrilled to have him join our team.”
“I am incredibly excited to join Stanford Athletics and become part of such a special community and an unmatched legacy of excellence,” said Campbell. “I am grateful to John, Amy and the leadership team for their belief in me and the opportunity to join an institution so committed to integrity and achievement, both on and off the field. My family and I can’t wait to get to The Farm, join this outstanding team, and help grow an advancement program that positions Stanford to lead in the next era of college athletics.”
Campbell previously served as Assistant Vice President for Athletics Development at the University of Miami from 2023-26, overseeing all fundraising strategy, operations and programs while a member of the department’s executive leadership team. During his tenure, Miami emerged as one of the nation's leading athletics enterprises while operating at the forefront of unprecedented industry change, as revenue growth fueled investments that drove on-field success, record-breaking academic achievement and nationally recognized community engagement.
Under Campbell’s leadership, Miami experienced the most successful fundraising period in department history, resulting in a record year with nearly $50 million raised in FY26 - more than double the previous annual average. Campbell also helped guide the successful completion of Miami’s more than $225 million goal as part of the university's Ever Brighter Campaign, including securing $29 million during the campaign's final 75 days. During this period, Miami secured four of the six top gifts in athletics program history and two of the three largest benefiting Hurricanes women’s programs.
In addition to fundraising leadership, Brian served as the sport administrator for the department’s golf and rowing programs. During that stretch, the rowing program earned its first NCAA appearance and opened a new state-of-the-art training facility, while the golf team achieved two NCAA appearances, a top-10 ranked 2026 recruiting class, and transitioned to a new training and competition home. Meanwhile, the football program advanced to the 2026 CFP National Championship Game.
Prior to Miami, Campbell served at his alma mater, the United States Air Force Academy from 2018-23, culminating as Executive Director of Development for Strategic Programs and Athletic Giving. During this period, the Academy experienced the most successful fundraising period in its history, completing the $300 million Defining Our Future campaign. Campbell directed fundraising strategy for athletics capital projects, endowments, and major giving while securing gifts across Academy priorities. He led a nearly $40 million fundraising initiative supporting the $90 million modernization of Falcon Stadium and guided the philanthropic component of the approximately $250 million Hotel Polaris project. Campbell also served as the primary liaison to the Air Force Academy Foundation Board's Athletic Committee.
Prior to returning to intercollegiate athletics, Campbell advanced to partner at Anheuser-Busch InBev, where he led commercial strategy for the company's nearly $1 billion Northwest business unit. During a five-year tenure (2013-18), he directed a $20 million annual commercial investment portfolio, negotiated partnerships with organizations across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, and NCAA while leading brand and media strategy, sponsorship activation, and fan and consumer engagement initiatives.
Campbell served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of captain before transitioning to a career in business and higher education. Throughout his career, Campbell has remained committed to community engagement, serving on the boards of the National Football Foundation of Colorado, the Missouri Veterans Initiative, and the Boys & Girls Club of Alton, Illinois.
A former football student-athlete at the United States Air Force Academy, he earned his MBA from the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis.
Campbell and his wife, Ali, have three children, Claire, Jack and Charlotte.
