* In Texas' 43rd NCAA Regional appearance, the Longhorns are now 141-40-1.Head coach Augie Garrido is 8-3 in regional action at Texas.

* In his 11th NCAA Regional appearance, Long Beach State head coach DaveSnow now has a 28-15 record.

* This is the worst loss for the Dirtbags in an NCAA Regional since 1998when they fell 12-3 to North Carolina State, also at Sunken Diamond. LongBeach State went on to win that regional and head to the College WorldSeries.

* Junior starting pitcher Gerrit Simpson notched his sixth complete gamethis season with a two-run, nine hit performance on the mound. He also tieda career-high 12 strikeouts for his fifth 10+ strikeout outing.* Long Beach State starter Matt Paz took the loss, giving up seven runs oneight hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He is 8-8 on the season.

* The Longhorns scored two runs in the fourth inning, but put together aproductive five-run fifth. Junior 1B Jeff Ontiveros followed senior C SamAnderson's two-run double, with a two-run home run over the left field wall.It was Ontiveros' sixth home run of the season.

* Anderson, sophomore LF Ben King and junior RF Matt Rosenberg each hadmulti-hit games. Anderson was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.Rosenberg went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. King added twohits, two runs and one RBI.

* Long Beach State senior C Bryan Kennedy stopped the shutout in the bottomof the sixth inning with a RBI single to right field.

* Long Beach State freshman RF Paul Macaluso hit his sixth home run of theseason to lead off the seventh inning.

* Paz's two balks in the fourth inning were his seventh and eighth balks ofthe season.

* Junior CD Kalani Napoleon has tied his career-high eight-game hittingstreak. Sophomore DH Ryan Hubele is also on an eight-game hitting streak.

* Long Beach State junior SS Bobby Crosby has now hit safely in 12 of 13games.
