The Cardinal rebounded for a 9-4 comeback victory on Saturday, marking the 13th time in 27 wins this season that the Cardinal has come from behind to win ... Stanford currently sits in sole possession of third place with a 5-3 Pac-10 mark, 1.5 games behind first place USC (8-3 Pac-10) and 1.0 game in back of second place Arizona State (9-5 Pac-10) ... National Player of the Year candidate Jason Cooper was named Pac-10 and NCBWA National Player of the Week after hitting four homers and driving in 10 runs in four games last week ... Cooper continues to lead the team with a .386 batting average, 10 homers and 39 RBI ... Chris O'Riordan (.363, 230-633) is currently on the top of Stanford's career batting average list, one percentage point ahead of Jack Shepard (.362), after going 21-for-46 (.457) on his current 10-game hit streak ... O'Riordan's hit streak is his third of 10 or more games this season and one shy of his career-high of 11 ... O'Riordan is second among regulars with a .367 batting average, leads the team in bases on balls (23), co-leads the squad in hits (55), has hit safely in 33 of 36 games and has reached base in all 36 games this season ... Brian Hall leads the club with eight stolen bases and is perfect on the basepaths in eight chances ... Stanford's regular starting rotation of Jeremy Guthrie, Tim Cunningham and John Hudgins is a combined 17-2 with a 3.80 ERA ... Guthrie has won 11 consecutive decisions, while leading the team in strikeouts (73) and innings pitched (79.1) ... STANFORD-WASHINGTON BASEBALL SERIES HISTORY
Stanford and Washington conclude their three-game Pac-10 series Sunday, April 21 (1 pm, PT). Stanford is currently in third place in the Pac-10, 1.5 games behind first place USC (23-16, 8-3 Pac-10) and one game behind second place Arizona State (25-14, 9-5 Pac-10). The teams have split the first two games of their current series with a 3-1 Washington victory on Friday and a 9-4 Stanford win on Saturday. Stanford has won nine of the last 10 games between the clubs. Last year, the Cardinal swept the Huskies in a three-game series at Sunken Diamond (3/23, 9-3, 3/24, 9-0, 3/25, 13-4). Stanford leads the all-time series, 29-10.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY GAME REVIEWS
at Washington 3, Stanford 1 (April 19, 2002) - Aaron Hathaway and Greg Isaacson bounced back-to-back two-out RBI singles through the infield in the bottom of the seventh inning and Shawn Kohn pitched a complete game six-hitter to lift Washington to a 3-1 upset victory over Stanford. Stanford reliever Ryan McCally (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season after giving up both Washington runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kohn (7-2) struck out just two Cardinal batters but did not issue a walk while pitching his fourth complete game of the season. Chris O'Riordan (2-4, 2B) and Sam Fuld (2-4) had two hits each for the Cardinal, while Hathaway (2-3) was the only Washington player with more than one hit.

Stanford 9, at Washington 4 (April 20, 2002) - Stanford scored seven times in the final three innings for a 9-4 comeback victory over Washington. Cardinal reliever Dan Rich earned his first victory since 1999, posting new career-highs with six strikeouts and 4.2 innings pitched. Stanford trailed the entire game before tying the contest with two runs in the top of the seventh and taking its first lead on a one-out RBI single by Arik VanZandt in the top of the eighth inning. Stanford added four insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Jason Cooper (3-4, 2 2B) and Ryan Garko (3-5, RBI) led a Stanford offense that collected 17 hits, while Carlos Quentin (2-4, 2 RBI), Sam Fuld (2-4), Brian Hall (2-5, 3B, 2 RBI) and VanZandt (2-5, RBI) had two hits each. Aaron Hathaway (3-4, 2B, 4 RBI) and Tyler Davidson (2-4) led the Husky offense.
