Women's Crew Varsity Eight Finishes Fourth At the San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, Calif. - The Varsity Women's eight raced to a fourth place finish in the grand final of the Jessop-Whittier Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic today. Making their first appearance in the Grand Final since 1995, the Cardinal eight fought hard all the way down the course finishing ahead of No. 6 Virgina, No. 20 Notre Dame and Washington State University. University of Washington won the race in a time of 6.24. This is the best Stanford finish at the Crew Classic since 1990.

Both the novice and third varsity won the petite finals by decisive margins suggesting that they could have been competitive in the grand finals. The second varsity finished second in the petite after having a much improved race from their heat.

Next Saturday the squad competes against California at Redwood Shores. Races begin at 9:00 am.
