Cleveland, Ohio - Eight-time champion Stanford University (Cal.), Penn State University and the University of Michigan, continue to hold onto the top three spots in the NACDA Directors' Cup Division I standings as the winter championships wind down. Only one winter championship, women's gymnastics, remain.
Stanford scored in nine of the 11 winter sports, placing third in men's swimming, sixth in women's swimming and indoor track and field, seventh in fencing and men's gymnastics, 10th in men's indoor track and field, 17th in women and men's basketball and 50th in men's wrestling to post 984 points. Penn State is 166.5 points back, with 817.5 points. The Nittany Lions placed second in fencing, third in men's gymnastics, sixth in men's wrestling, ninth in women's basketball, 21st in women's indoor track and field, 22nd in women's swimming and 34th in men's swimming.
Michigan is in third place with 767.5 points; followed by Texas, in fourth with 668.5 points; and Notre Dame, fifth with 664 points.
This is the third set of winter standings and includes the sports of fencing, skiing, men's gymnastics, ice hockey and wrestling and women and men's basketball, swimming and indoor track and field. Winning national championships were Notre Dame in fencing, Utah in skiing, Connecticut in women's basketball, Syracuse in men's basketball, Oklahoma in men's gymnastics, Minnesota in men's ice hockey, Auburn in women and men's swimming, Louisiana State in women's indoor track and field, Arkansas in men's indoor track and field and Oklahoma State in men's wrestling.
