What are Gold Games?
Each Stanford Varsity team has selected one game as their "Gold Game." This match represents the team's biggest rival and/or competition for which the team wants maximum support. Cardinal Council makes it our priority to promote for these games through the student-athletes, the general student body, the university academic and athletic administration and through the local alumni.
Gold Game promotions:
For each Gold Game, Cardinal Council takes attendance of every Stanford student in attendance. At the end of the year, each student gets raffle tickets depending on how many Gold Games the student attended. Specifically for the frosh, we also keep track of what dorms have the highest overall attendance throughout each quarter of Gold Games. Whichever dorm wins this quarterly competition receives a pizza party, sponsored jointly by the Office of Freshman and Transfer Students and the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. This past quarter, Donner, an all-frosh dorm in Stern won with 42% of the dorm attending at least one Gold Game. Cedro, an all-frosh dorm in Wilbur, came in a close second at 40%. Which frosh dorm will win this quarter?
Cardinal Council Overview
Stanford offers the nation's most rewarding student-athlete experience. Nine straight Director's Cups, a world-class education, brilliant classmates, a picturesque campus and an ideal location are only a few of the aspects that make the Farm so appealing to student-athletes. Cardinal Council, the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC), contributes to this invaluable experience by ensuring that all student-athletes have a voice and participate in the athletic community. This year's primary Cardinal Council projects include: Gold Games, Athlete Formal, Student-Athlete Date Auction, Champion's Cup, Youth Olympics, and Special Olympics.
