Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford junior outfielder Danny Putnam (Escondido, CA/Rancho Bernardo HS) earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the period ending April 18, winning the honor for the first time this season and on the second occasion in his career on Tuesday. His selection marked the 55th time a Stanford player has been chosen for the award in its history. Last week, the Cardinal swept the Pac-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week selections when Brian Hall and Jeff Stimpson won the honors, respectively.
Putnam hit .500 (8-16) with a triple, three home runs, five runs scored, a stolen base and 10 RBI in a victory over Santa Clara and a three-game sweep of California last week. He also added a 1.188 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base mark, while fielding all 11 of his chances defensively. Putnam highlighted his week by going 3-for-4 with his fourth career two-homer game and a season-high five RBI in a 9-2 victory over California on April 17.
Putnam is leading the Cardinal with 52 hits on the season, while ranking second on the club in homers (10), as well as third in RBI (36) and fourth in batting average (.359). He is currently on a seven-game hit streak (4/8 - 4/18).
Stanford is off to a 29-5 start that is the third-best through 34 games in school history and currently leads the Pac-10 by two games with a 7-2 conference record after pulling off the first sweep of a Pac-10 series this season by winning three in a row versus California from April 16-18.
The Cardinal will host Saint Mary's at Sunken Diamond in the first of four consecutive non-conference games this Tuesday, April 20.
