STANFORD, Calif. - Jessica Elway, following in the footsteps of parents and former Stanford student-athletes John and Janet, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cardinal women's basketball team for the 2004-05 season.

Jessica is a 5-10 guard/forward from Englewood, Colo., who attends Cherry Creek High School. She has captained her team for the past three years and is a four-time letterwinner. She helped Cherry Creek High to a second-place finish in the 2004 state tournament, while earning Second-Team All-State, All-Tournament Team and First-Team All-Centennial League honors.

Jessica was named the Most Valuable Player of the Deep South Classic Tournament after leading her squad to a tournament title and tallying 31 points in the final game. This season, she averaged 10.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, and dished out 61 assists. She was also selected for all-star games with the adidas Top-Ten Camp and CCGS.

John, was a two-time All-American quarterback for the Stanford football team from 1979-82 before being drafted as the No. 1 pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. John led the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl Championships and was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame. He continues to hold Cardinal records for touchdown passes in a season (27, 1980) and in a game (6, 1980). He also played baseball for the Cardinal for two years.

As a freshman during the 1979-80 season, Janet, led the Stanford women's swimming team to its first-ever AIAW National Championship. Janet set a national record with a 4:16.66 clocking in the 400-yard individual medley, and was the Cardinal's leading individual scorer with 82 points in the championship.

Three signees, Cissy Pierce, Christy Titchenal and Candice Wiggins, committed to the Stanford squad last November.
