Stanford, Calif. - Stanford returned to No. 1 in the latest Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls released on Monday. The Cardinal was the nation's unanimous team for two weeks (March 22-29) earlier this season and was on top of the Baseball America poll for seven consecutive weeks from February 23 - April 5. Stanford has posted a 35-6 record that is the second best mark in school history after 41 games and leads the Pac-10 with a 10-2 conference mark. Stanford has also won 11 of its last 12 games overall after winning all four of its games last week, including a three-game Pac-10 sweep of Washington State. Stanford has won all 11 of its three-game series this season and has 16 consecutive regular season three-game series dating back to last year. In addition, the Cardinal has a current 13-game home win streak.
Former No. 1 Texas dropped to second in both polls after losing two-of-three at Missouri last Friday-Sunday.
The Sports Weekly/ESPN and NCBWA national polls are scheduled to be released Monday afternoon.
The Cardinal will host San Jose State in a non-conference game on Tuesday, May 4 (6 pm, PDT) before traveling to No. 21 Washington for a key Pac-10 showdown next Friday-Sunday, May 7-9 (6:30 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PDT). Saturday's game against the second-place Huskies (10-5 Pac-10) will be televised live on FOX Sports Northwest.
