Richmond, Va. - Stanford senior infielder/outfielder Brian Hall (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS) added to his honors on Wednesday when he was named the West Regional Player of the Week by College Baseball Insider.com. Hall had already earned National Player of the Week honors from Louisville Slugger on Monday and was named the NCBWA Co-Hitter of the Week and the Pac-10 Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Hall had a huge series for Stanford in a three-game sweep of Washington State (April 30 - May 2) to vault the Cardinal into the top spot in the national polls, hitting an incredible .909 by going 10-for-11 with a double, two homers, eight RBI and one walk with a 1.545 slugging percentage. He was also successful in all 23 of his chances defensively.
"I don't think I've ever had a player who has had quite the type of series that Brian Hall did against Washington State," said 28th-year Stanford head coach Mark Marquess.
Hall was 4-for-4 in both of the first two games of the Washington State series, adding a homer and three RBI in Friday night's opener and two RBI in Saturday's contest, while reaching base in eight consecutive official at bats during the two contests. He was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in Sunday's finale. Hall also had a hit (1-5, 2 RBI) and drove in a pair of runs with two sacrifice flies last Tuesday in a 12-8 win in 14 innings at Santa Clara. He finished the week with a .688 batting average (11-16), a double, two homers, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.125 slugging percentage.
Hall is now hitting .395 as he has hit safely in 26 of his last 27 games, adding nine homers, 46 RBI and a team-high 10 stolen bases. He is hitting an astounding .638 (30-47) in 12 Pac-10 contests with five homers, 19 RBI and four stolen bases.
The two weekly national honors and the regional honor are the first in Hall's career. He became the second Stanford player to earn a national weekly honor this season with Jed Lowrie also being named the NCBWA National Co-Hitter of the Week on March 2.
The Pac-10 honor was the second of his career and his second this season as he also won the honor on April 13.
Stanford improved to 36-6 overall after a 7-2 victory over San Jose State on Tuesday. The 2004 team's record is the second best mark in school history after 42 games as the Cardinal also leads the Pac-10 with a 10-2 conference mark. Stanford has also won five in row and 12 of its last 13 contests overall, while also winning all 11 of its three-game regular season series this year to extend its regular season three-game series win streak to 16. In addition, the Cardinal has a current 14-game home win streak.
Stanford will travel to No. 21 Washington (26-14-1, 10-5 Pac-10) for a key Pac-10 showdown three-game series with the second-place Huskies this Friday-Sunday, May 7-9 (6:30 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PDT). Saturday's game will be televised live on FOX Sports Northwest.
