Pomona, Ca - Michael Robertson established a new school record Friday night in the discus to highlight Stanford's participation at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
Robertson, a transfer from SMU, hurled the discus 199-10 (60.91m) to beat the old school mark of 198-7 (60.53m) set by Omer Inan in 2002. That mark is also the best in the Pac-10 Conference this year.
Robertson, a junior, finished third in the discus (195-2, 59.48m) for the Mustangs at the NCAA's last year to earn All-American honors. Robertson's career-best remains 212-11 (64.90m) last year.
Joaquin Chapa qualified for the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 3:43.22 in the 1,500 meters. The regional standard was 3:48.21.
Sarah Hopping had a season-best mark of 187-9 (57.32m) in the hammer to earn a regional berth.
Freshman Danielle Maier made her season debut a successful one with a victory and a regional qualifying mark of 145-9 (44.42m) in the javelin. Her mark was also a freshman school record.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, several Stanford runners turned in outstanding performances. Ian Dobson turned in the second-fastest time in school history in the 5,000 meters. Dobson finished fifth with a career-best time of 13:27.45. Ryan Hall produced a career-best in the same race at 13:31.58. Both times easily beat the regional qualifying time of 14:15.75. Other regional qualifers from Stanford included Neftalem Araia (13:47.72), Chris Emme (14:02.90) and Jonathan Pierce (14:09.55).
In the women's 5,000 meters, Sara Bei and Anita Siraki qualified for the NCAA Regionals with respective times of 15:41.57 and 16:37.73.
Evan Fox and Russell Brown were regional qualifiers in the 1,500 meters with respective times of 3:45.03 and 3:45.24.
