Ojai, Calif. - Cardinal doubles pair Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey had only competed as a tandem once before heading to Ojai this weekend. Despite their recent pairing, the duo captured the Pac-10 Doubles Championship this afternoon with an 8-1 victory over 14th-ranked Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar of Arizona.
Barnes and Yelsey posted four-straight wins at the Pac-10 Championships en route to the title and now own a 5-0 record together, after recording one dual win together last season. Barnes, along with regular doubles partner Erin Burdette, also captured the 2004 Pac-10 Doubles Title.
In singles action, No. 22 Barnes lost a three-set match to ninth-ranked Nicole Leimbach of USC. This is Barnes' second runner-up finish at the Pac-10 Championships, after falling to California's Raquel Kops-Jones last year.
