Senior Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA/Francis Parker HS) of the Stanford Women's Tennis Team was selected as the Stanford/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 4-April 10.
Liu helped the Cardinal to a perfect weekend over UCLA and USC last weekend, picking up a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot in singles and another two wins in doubles at the No. 2 spot. Liu downed both 20th-ranked Laura Gordon of UCLA and 51st-ranked Lindsey Nelson of USC in straight sets, helping Stanford improve to 20-0 on the year with a 5-0 record in the Pac-10. The victories increased the Cardinal's home win streak to 94 matches and its overall win streak to 74 matches, which ties the previous school record set by the Cardinal from 1988-91. Liu, the two-time NCAA Singles Champion, is ranked in the top-25 in program history with 67 career dual victories and owns a 67-16 overall record in her four years on The Farm.
This is Liu's first Stanford/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor. Liu and the rest of the Cardinal Women's Tennis Team travel to Arizona this weekend to take on the Wildcats on Friday, April 14 (1:30 PM) and the Sun Devils on Saturday, April 15 (12:00 pm).
