Sophomore Laura Shane and senior Megan Burker have been named to the Division I All-Regional First Team for the West/Midwest Region, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association yesterday. The honors add to the list of historical firsts accomplished by the Stanford women's lacrosse team this season, as no other Cardinal player has ever been named to an All-Regional First Team.

Shane, who was named to the All-Regional Second Team for the South Region last year, finished her second collegiate season with 205 saves. She remains the only goalkeeper in the nation to have registered multiple 20+ save performances in 2006, and stands third in the nation with a .556 save percentage. Just two years into her collegiate career, Shane is within 50 saves of topping the Cardinal career save mark.

Burker, Stanford's 2006 leading scorer, was named to an IWLCA All-Regional Team for the first time in her career. The senior broke the Cardinal all-time scoring record with just 13 seconds left in her collegiate career, finishing with 143 career goals and 64 career assists. The Baltimore, Md. native was also responsible for more than a quarter of Cardinal draw controls, and consistently ranked in the top-20 nationally in draw controls per game.

The Stanford standouts were two of the 128 Division I women's lacrosse players selected to an All-Regional Team this year. Both are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 30. Should either player be selected, she would be the first All-American ever selected from a west coast school. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 10, 2006 in Baltimore, Md.
