Stanford, Calif. - Six of the top eight seeds advanced to the Round of 16 while the number two seeded player was upset in today's second day of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles championships ... No. 1 seed Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA moved on with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Eric Molnar of Colordo ... The biggest upset came of the day occurred when Arizona's Roger Matalonga upset No. 2 seed John Isner of NCAA runnerup Georgia, 7-6 (5), 6-4 ... Other seeded players advancing include No. 3 seed Luigi D'Agord of Miami, No. 5 Ludovic Walter of Duke, No. 6 Conor Niland of California, No. 7 Armau Brugues of Tulsa and No. 8 Travis Helgeson of Texas ... All 16 players remaining in the tournament have earned All-America honors for 2006 ... In addition to the players listed above, others earning All-America status and moving on to the Round of 16 are: Pierrick Ysern of San Diego, Callum Beale of Texas, Tyai Zguns of Arkansas, Erling Tveit of Mississippi, Ryler DeHeart of Illinois, KC Corkery of Stanford, Clement Reix of Clemson, Somdev Devvarman of Virginia, Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame ... The only school with two remaining players is Texas with Beale and Helgeson.
In doubles, the No. 1 seeded team was knocked out of the tournament on the first day of doubles competition ... Scott Green and Ross Wilson of Ohio State were defeated by Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke of Duke 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 ... The other top three seeds all advanced to tomorrow's Round of 16 ... No. 2 seed Andre Begemann and Scott Doemen from NCAA champion Pepperdine advanced after beating Matt Baccarani and Patrick Thompson of Ball State, 6-1, 6-4 ... Two of the four teams seeded 5-8 lost as well ... Illinois is the only school to have two doubles teams advancing in the tournament.
