Freshman Lindsay Burdette (Jackson, Ga./UNL Independent Study) of the Stanford women's tennis team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 16-22.
Freshman Lindsay Burdette (Jackson, Ga./UNL Independent Study) of the Stanford women's tennis team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 16-22.
Burdette's 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Cristina Visico at No. 5 singles clinched a 4-3 victory for No. 1 Stanford over No. 9 California in the regular season finale for both teams on Apr. 21 in Berkeley. The win secured the 20th Pac-10 title in school history, as the Cardinal completed an 8-0 conference season and improved to 20-1 overall.
Burdette, ranked No. 82 nationally, currently leads the Cardinal with an overall record of 24-4. She is 16-2 in dual match play, including an 11-2 mark at her customary No. 5 spot in the lineup. Burdette is15-2 against Pac-10 opponents, owns a 4-3 ledger against nationally-ranked foes and has won four of her last five.
This is the first career honor for Burdette. Stanford continues play at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., this weekend.
