Associate Athletic Director Scott Schuhmann Named Director Of Competition

Stanford, CA - April 15, 2008 - Stanford University Athletics today announced Scott Schuhmann, a 19-year veteran with the department who most recently served as an Associate Athletic Director and manager of Avery Aquatics Center, was recently named the Director of Competition overseeing the 2009 National Senior Games. Effective May 1, Schuhmann, a former assistant coach and director of operations for the Cardinal football team, will lead the planning and execution of the National Senior Games, which is scheduled to take place in the Bay Area August 1-15, 2009.

The National Senior Games is the nation's largest multi-sport event where athletes over the age of 50 compete. In 2009, The National Senior Games will make its West Coast debut and will be hosted in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As Director of Competition, Schuhmann will manage the creation of all sport competition schedules and develop and manage the competition budget. In addition, Schuhmann will serve as the liaison to local and national government sport associations and will direct the day-to-day competition management.

"Scott has been instrumental to the department directing many areas including recruiting, sports administration, operations, physical education and recreation, as well as coaching," said Deputy Director of Athletics Ray Purpur. "Scott's success and experience in operations and management make him the ideal person to run this major competition, which is expected to draw more than 15,000 competitors."
