STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford RHP Erik Davis garnered his first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor Tuesday, the conference announced. Davis, a senior from Mountain View, tossed his fourth straight complete game in Saturday's 6-1 victory over UCLA, helping the Cardinal clinch its eighth weekend series of the 2008 season.
Over his nine innings of work in the contest, Davis struck out a season-high 13 batters, marking the second time this year that he had set down at least 10 batters on strikes. The senior also scattered seven hits while limiting the Bruins to a single run and issuing only a single base on balls.
The win improved Davis' 2008 record to 6-1 while lowering his earned-run average to 3.83. On the year, he is averaging nearly one strikeout per inning pitched, with 56 strikeouts in 56.1 total innings of work.
Stanford (22-12-2) returns to action at Klein Field Wednesday night at 6 p.m., hosting the Saint Mary's Gaels in non-conference action.
