STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford University Sailing Team received two trophies following the PCCSC Coed Dinghy Championship.
The team consisting of Nick Dugdale, Justin Doane, Hannah Burroughs, Peter Stemler and Kete Jewett received the PCCSC Coed Dinghy Championship Trophy following its win at last weekend's championships in Hawaii.
Stanford’s team of Peter Stemler and Kate Jewett also received the Inaugural Nicholas Salvatore Scandone Memorial Trophy for the B Division low point at the championship. Stemler placed first six times and sailed never lower than sixth in any of the six races.
The Inaugural Nicholas Salvatore Scandone Memorial Trophy is in honor of Nick Scandone who was a former All American from the University of California Urvine. In his collegiate career he won the B Division at the Conference Coed Dinghy Championships 4 times. He then went on to win gold in the Skud fleet at the Paralympic games in 2008. Six months later on January 2, 2009 Scandone lost his battle with ALS. Now the trophy serves as a token to recognize Scandone.
