WASHINGTON, DC-- Last year's closer is now in a Major League bullpen as former Stanford reliever Drew Storen was called up to the Washington Nationals late Sunday, giving the Cardinal, its 85th Major Leaguer.

Storen, who led the Cardinal with a 7-1 record, 3.80 ERA and seven saves at just about time last year, spent just 41 games in the minors over barely a full season between all levels of the Washington organization. He was the tenth overall selection in the 2009 June Amateur Draft.

He earned the promotion to Triple-A this season after an 0.96 ERA in seven appearances at Double-A Harrisburg. At Triple-A Syracuse he had a 1.23 ERA in six relief appearances.
Overall he had a 1.68 ERA over 53.2 innings, allowing just 33 hits. He struck out 64 and walked just 11 in his brief minor league career. In 59 career games, over two seasons at Stanford, he had a 3.63 ERA with 116 strikeouts over 99.0 innings.
With Storen, the Cardinal now have eight former players in the Majors this season, two general managers in Kenny Williams (White Sox) and Ruben Amaro, Jr. (Phillies) and one manager (A.J. Hinch).
