STANFORD, Calif.- Freshman Kristie Ahn (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) of the women's tennis team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 25-May 1.
This is the first honor for a women's tennis player since Hilary Barte was selected on May 25, 2010.
Ahn knocked off USC's Maria Sanchez 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon to capture the singles title at the Pac-10 Championships. Seeded seventh in the tourney draw and ranked No. 25 in the nation, Ahn entered the weekend simply looking to get healthy and build momentum for the postseason.
Instead, Ahn upended the country's second-ranked player and tournament's No. 1 seed in Sanchez to earn Stanford's first Pac-10 singles title since Gabriela Lastra defeated USC's Jewel Peterson back on Apr. 28, 2002.
It's another example of Stanford's superior team depth, as Ahn alternates between the Nos. 3 and 4 spots of the lineup.
Also Nominated: Teagan Gerhart (softball), Elliott Heath (men's track and field), Kevin Laube (men's sailing), Stephanie Marcy (women's track and field), Pallavi Menon (women's water polo), Lyndsey Munoz (lacrosse), Danny Sandbrink (baseball).
