STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Jordan Burgess of the Stanford women's volleyball team was named Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 9-15.
Burgess led the Cardinal at the NCAA Lexington Regional with 3.25 kills and 4.38 digs per set while hitting .312. For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team.
The outside hitter notched nine kills, 17 digs and a season-high four blocks in a sweep over No. 10 Minnesota in the regional semifinals. The Fort Myers, Fla., native then paced the Cardinal with 17 kills on a .375 attack percentage and 18 digs in a five-set loss to second-ranked Penn State in the regional final.
It marks the second weekly award for the outside hitter, who also earned the honor as a rookie in 2012. It is the lone Muscle Milk honor of th year for the women's volleyball team.
Stanford closed out the season 27-6 overall and advanced to its third NCAA regional final in the past four seasons. The Cardinal, which finished second in the Pac-12 (17-3), had a school record five players, including Burgess, selected to the AVCA all-region teams.
