The fall went well for our 2010 squad. We had tournament wins by Mallory Burdette at the St. Mary’s Invitational in October and doubles titles by Lindsay Burdette and Hilary Barte at the ITA/ Wilson NW Regionals and then the ITA National Indoor Championships. We have a busy schedule starting in January followed by our first trip to Texas in many years - a match at TCU followed by a visit to play alum Patty Fendick’s UT squad. Please join us in February for some intriguing matchups with Sac St. and Boise St. before heading to LA and renewing our home and away series with USC and UCLA. The quarter will finish with up-and-coming St. Mary’s visiting in March before our first of two showdowns with the 2009 NCAA finalists Cal Bears. After the usual tough winter schedule we will know a lot about this team and where we are headed this year. We look forward as always to your continued support! Happy New Year! Brandon, JJ, and I were very pleased with our fall season. The team worked extremely hard in practice and in strength and conditioning. Our strength coach (Jason Quan) did an outstanding job with the team this fall. Our trainer (Myra Tara) did a great job keeping the team healthy. We had some excellent results in the early season fall tournaments. Sophomores Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher and Junior Alex Clayton competed in the All-American tournament in Tulsa. Thacher/Klahn reached the semifinals of the doubles. In the ITA Regional’s in Berkeley, Klahn was the singles champion. Klahn/Thacher won the doubles title. The ITA National Individual Indoor tournament was played in New Haven, CT. Klahn/Thacher were the doubles champions of the event. A new tournament was added to the schedule, “Battle of the Bay” played at the Cal Club in San Francisco. Freshman Denis Lin was the singles finalist. Lin, and fellow freshman Walker Kehrer were the doubles champions. One of the highlights of the fall was our visit to San Quentin to play tennis with the inmates. On Saturday November 14 eight of us went to the prison to play some doubles, and do a few drills. We also were taken on a tour of the facility. It was a morning we will never forget. We are looking forward to the beginning of the dual match season. We have fourteen home matches this year, starting with Sacramento State on January 23. We will be hosting the Team Indoor qualifying tournament, January 29 & 30. We must win two matches to qualify for the National Team Indoor at the University of Virginia, Feb. 12-15. The teams playing in the qualifying tournament along with us are San Diego State, Oklahoma, and UNC-Wilmington. Between February 19-March 3 we have five home matches highlighted with matches against Cal, UCLA, and defending NCAA champion USC. The quarter ends with our annual trip to La Jolla for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships Mar. 5-7. We will travel to Illinois and Michigan during our spring break to play two tough intersectional matches. We then return to begin our Pac-10 season against Arizona on March 27. Before the dual matches begin, we have a tournament at the Sherwood Country Club, Westlake Village, CA January 15-18. This should be another exciting year for Stanford Men’s Tennis!! We look forward to seeing you at our matches at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Thank you for all your support over the years. Go Card!! Stanford Men Visit San Quentin Prison | ||||||
