| | | STANFORD TENNIS ?“ SPRING, 2010 Spring quarter begins Monday, and only 10 great home matches remain prior to the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA?™s, May 14-16. Three additional matches have been added in April to our original schedule. (See attached schedule at the end of this newsletter). Our men?™s and women?™s teams are just reaching their stride, and have proven they can play with anyone. They both remain definite threats to do very well, and perhaps even emerge as champions, in the NCAA Championships.
Remember that all home matches are free), and that Dick Gould will meet by arrangement with youth or adult groups for a pre-match ?chalk talk.? You won?™t want to miss any of these exciting matches, so if you are unable to attend, catch the action live: www.gostanford.com . Click on ?men?™s or women?™s tennis,? and then on ?Live Scoreboard.? FACILITY UP-GRADES In preparation for the Men?™s and Women?™s 2011 Championships at the Taube Tennis Center, we are well along with several major facility up-grades: - Player locker rooms have been gutted and will be ready for use in a couple of weeks, thanks to gifts from the Bob McGlinchey Memorial Fund and the John Hoisch Family.
- Stadium meeting rooms have been improved and made more comfortable.
- Additional scoreboards and video streaming (with sound) to all 12 competition courts, including the Taube South complex, is almost complete and will be operable before the end of the season..
- Stadium Fa?ade: (To be completed in late April)
- Thanks to a special gift honoring coach John Whitlinger, a special all-weather Kiosk with 24-hour public access is being developed to store app. 300 hours of ?on call? historical dvd?™s of Stanford players in college and as pros.
- A large all-weather screen, programmable to show: Kiosk videos or selected dvd?™s, live matches from selected courts, internet scoreboard reports of all matches in progress, live tennis TV broadcasts, and YouTube shorts.
These improvements represent a major effort, and should all be completed by mid-Spring. Contact Dick Gould if interested in supporting this facility improvement for the NCAA?™s as a ?Stanford Tennis Champion.? COACHSHIP ENDOWMENTS We remind you we are also actively seeking significant help for endowing our head men?™s tennis coaching position and our assistant women?™s coaching position. Each of these named endowments represents an investment of app. $1.5 million, which may be spread over a five-year period. | | | | WOMEN'S COACHING STAFF The Peter & Helen Bing Director of Women's Tennis Lele Forood 641 E. | | | | | Winter quarter started with championships at both the NCTC (Hilary Barte in singles and doubles with Lindsay Burdette) and the Freeman Invitation (Stacey Tan in singles and doubles with Mallory Burdette). This was a great segue to the start of the dual meet season, which began with a challenging trip to Texas and resulted in wins at both TCU and University of Texas before a very spirited crowd. We then faced a formidable UCLA team in Los Angeles. (The match with USC was rained out). This losing experience showed the team much about digging deep, and they responded with an upset win at Cal the end of the academic quarter. We have great home matches this Spring beginning with the Pac-10 ?counter? matches against USC and UCLA and ending against Cal in the ZOOM Marketing Spring Smash/Senior Day on April 17. We hope you can come out and support this fast maturing team as we make a final push for a conference title! Spring Home Schedule Friday, April 2 vs. USC @ 1:30

| | | | | Rain, rain; go away! That has been the theme this winter for our dual matches. It has rained for all nine home matches this quarter. Amazingly we only had to cancel one of them. Unfortunately that one was UCLA. I can?™t remember that ever happening in all my years here at the Farm. The quarter started at the Sherwood Cup in Westlake Village, CA. The tournament went well with Bradley Klahn winning the singles title. Alex Clayton reached the semifinals. The tournament is held at the beautiful Sherwood Country Club, and it is a great way to get going after the holiday break. Our dual matches started a week later. Sacramento State was our first match, then we hosted the National Indoor qualifying tournament.. We defeated UNC-Wilmington, then defeated Oklahoma (which defeated San Diego State) to qualify for the Team Indoors at Charlottesville, VA. Our first round match was against a very good Texas team. The Longhorns played well and defeated us. We then were placed in the consolation bracket where we won two matches against Fresno State, and Kentucky. This quarter will be remembered for two classic college tennis matches against Cal and USC. Both matches were close and competitive, lasted over four hours and went down to the final match. Unfortunately we fell just short in both of them. They were very tough losses, but the team has responded well. We are looking forward to the rematches in April. The quarter ended with a trip to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club for the 121st Pacific Coast Doubles Championship. Rain was a factor in this event as well. The semifinals, including Ryan Thacher and Bradley Klahn, were postponed and will be played on April 4 at the Beach Club at noon. Once again Molly Thornton hosted the team and supporters of Stanford at her home during the tournament. Eight other couples were co-hosts for the event. It was wonderful evening enjoyed by all. Thanks to all who helped with the event. We have twelve dual matches remaining in our regular season. The Pac-10 schedule starts with our match with Arizona on March 27. We then host the HP Cup this year, our annual match with Baylor on March 30. Thanks to HP for their support of this event. We look forward to seeing you at our remaining matches at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Thank you for all your support!
