Stanford Defeats Clemson

CLEMSON, SC -- Emily Burt scored both goals in Stanford's 2-1 win over Clemson in the Clemson Women's Soccer Invitational here Friday night.

With the loss, Clemson falls to 3-2 overall, while Stanford improves to 3-1 overall. Stanford is ranked 16th in the Soccer America Poll, while the Lady Tigers are ranked 11th in both the NSCAA and Soccer America polls.

Burt scored early in the game at the 1:53 mark with an assist by Tracye Lawyer.

Clemson evened the score at the 15:51 mark as Lissa Mansberry scored a goal from close range near the right post with assists by Sara Burkett and Beth Keller.

Burt scored the game-winner at the 52:49 mark with an assist by Christy Stoffel. Stoffel sent a pass from the letf to Burt in the center of the box. Burt lifted a shot over Clemson's goalkeeper Meredith McCullen and into the upper left of the goal.

Stanford will play SMU at 11:00 a.m. Sunday in the second and final day of the tournament.
