Seasons at Stanford: 2005-08

At Stanford: Although he did not begin playing baseball until his senior year in high school, became an effective relief pitcher by the end of his Stanford career...developed a sidearm motion, and was extremely tough on right-handed batters...pitched in eight games on The Farm, posting a 6.75 ERA (3er, 4.0ip)...allowed opponents just two hits in 12 at-bats (.167), while right-handed batters went 0-for-7.

As a Senior in 2008: Fashioned a 2.70 ERA (1er, 3.1ip) in six relief appearances for Stanford's College World Series club...yielded just two hits in 11 at-bats (.182), while holding right-handed batters hitless in six at-bats...worked 0.2 inning in four games (March 4 and April 7 at California, April 9 vs. UC Davis and May 12 vs. Santa Clara)...logged three strikeouts.

As a Junior in 2007: Got into his first two collegiate games, going 0-0 with a 27.00 ERA in 0.2 innings (2er)...made his debut February 4 at Cal State Fullerton, and induced his only batter faced to ground into a double play.

As a Sophomore In 2006: Was a member of the team, but did not see any game action for the second straight season...however, he was twice penciled into the lineup as the designated hitter before he was pinch-hit for when his turn came up.

As a Freshman In 2005: Was a member of the team but did not see any game action...was once penciled into the lineup as the designated hitter before he was pinch-hit for when his turn came up.

High School: Graduated in 2004 from St. Francis High School in nearby Mountain View, Calif....played only one year of high school varsity baseball as a senior, when he led his team to a 29-3 record and the 2004 West Catholic Athletic League title by posting a 10-1 record with a 1.78 ERA on the hill...named first-team All-WCAL and second-team All-Central Coast Section in 2004...tied the WCAL record for the best winning percentage in conference play as a senior, going 5-0 in league action for a 1.000 winning percentage...also played two seasons of prep football as a center, earning second-team All-WCAL honors as a senior when he helped his team go undefeated in 2003 league play and win the WCAL title...was a member of St. Francis' CCS championship football squad in his junior season...named his school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior...coached in baseball by Chris Bradford.

Other Amateur Baseball: Pitched for the Maxim Yankees in the summer of 2007, going 0-2 with a 4.62 ERA and striking out 11 in 12.2 innings for a squad that posted a 32-16 record and finished ninth at the NBC World Series...helped lead the Waikiki Surfers to the 2006 Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League title with an impressive run in the playoffs...played his first season of collegiate summer baseball in 2005 with the Amsterdam Mohawks of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, going 1-6 with a 3.57 ERA in 11 appearances and eight starts...co-led the 2005 regular season league champion Mohawks with three complete games, striking out 29 in 58.0 innings (second on the club in innings pitched)...played with the 2004 Santa Clara Dodgers, who participated in the Palomino World Series.

Personal Information: Son of Larry and Ellen Petrill...was born at Stanford Hospital...his father, Larry, is an assistant junior varsity football coach at St. Francis High School...he played collegiate football at USC for two seasons (1965-66), and won the team's Most Valuable Lineman Award as a nose guard in 1966...mother, Ellen, played rugby (1977-78) and volleyball (1974-75) at Stanford...when he was playing in the Hawaii Collegiate Summer League in 2006, he was working in the law office of Marvin Dang in Honolulu...majored in political science.
