Weems Career-High 21 Points Paces No. 22 Cardinal Over Alaska-Anchorage in Home Debut

STANFORD, Calif. -- Kris Weems scored a career-high 21 points, all on three-pointers, as 22nd-ranked Stanford opened a 28-point halftime lead and cruised to a 105-70 rout of Division II Alaska-Anchorage in its home opener.

Weems was 7-for-9 from three-point range and Tim Young added 18 points and nine rebounds for Stanford (5-1), which also beat the Seawolves, 91-69, in the third-place game at the Great Alaska Shootout last month. The Cardinal played its first five games on the road.

Jim Hajdukovich led all scorers with 22 points for Alaska-Anchorage (7-3), which is ranked fourth in the latest Division II poll.

Stanford never trailed after Weems hit a pair of three-pointers in an 8-0 run to open the game. The Seawolves cut the margin to 15-8 on Ryan Williams' layup with 14:17 left in the half, but the Cardinal scored the next 12 points to take control. Weems had three more three-pointers, including one with 10:39 to go that put Stanford ahead, 29-8.

Alaska-Anchorage shot 29 percent from the field in the first half, while the Cardinal hit 64.5 percent of their shots.

The Seawolves twice got within 27 points early in the second half, but Weems' sixth three-pointer gave Stanford a 67-31 lead with just over 16 minutes remaining. The Cardinal led by as many as 38 before settling for the final margin.

Ryan Mendez added 15 points off the bench and Brevin Knight scored 12 for Stanford, which topped the 100-point mark for the first time since a 117-87 triumph over UC-Irvine in 1990.

Burt Wallace was the only other player in double figures for Alaska-Anchorage with 13 points.
