Young's 25 Points, 15 Rebounds Sinks Navy, 85-68

STANFORD, Calif. -- Tim Young scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Arthur Lee added 18 points as 23rd-ranked Stanford defeated Navy, 85-68, for its sixth straight win.

Kris Weems had 13 points for Stanford (7-1), which has won all three meetings with Navy. Young and Lee each had 10 points as the Cardinal built a 38-30 halftime lead.

"Navy showed the same aggressiveness they showed us last season," Stanford coach Mike Montgomery said. "With (Brevin) Knight out with the flu, we did a good job in maintaining our offense, particularly in the second half."

Michael Heary scored 25 points and Terrell Hickmon added 13 for the Midshipmen (6-5), who were playing their first game against a ranked opponent since losing to Missouri in the 1994 NCAA Tournament.

"Stanford exercised their inside game whe it really counted," Navy coach Don DeVoe said. "They did a nice job. They forced us into making a lot of mistakes, especially in the second half."

Navy has not beaten a ranked foe since edging Michigan State, 91-90, in 1986-87.

After Navy's Matt Sladky hit a three-pointer to tie the game, 54-54, Weems was fouled and hit three free throws to ignite a 16-4 run. He added a three-pointer during that span and Young's layup capped the burst, giving the Cardinal a 70-58 lead with 4:56 to go.

Peter Sauer had nine points and seven rebounds for Stanford, which shot 54.5 percent (24-of-44) from the floor.
