No. 24 Cardinal Cruises Past Manhattan, 81-59

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Peter Sauer scored a career-high 19 points and Brevin Knightadded 14 to lead 24th-ranked Stanford to an 81-59 victory overManhattan at Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.

Ryan Mendez chipped in 13 for Stanford (3-1), which was playingfor the first time since the Great Alaska Shootout on November30th. The Cardinal don't play a home game until December 28th,when they host Navy.

"That was good for us, that is what we need," said Stanfordcoach Mike Montgomery. "Defensively I saw some learning goingon out there. We made a ton of mistakes...but we were workinghard on defense."

Tarik Thacker netted 13 points and Jeronimo Bucero had 12 forManhattan (2-1), which has dropped both meetings with theCardinal. The previous encounter was a 73-60 decision in 1993.

Knight also recorded seven assists and six steals for theCardinal, who made 30-of-35 free throws (86 percent) and forced31 turnovers.

"They definitely made it a big priority to double and tripleteam (center) Tim (Young), so someone else had to step up," saidSauer. "There was a lot of openings and I was in the rightplace at the right time a lot of the time when they had morethan one guy on Tim."
