Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 1-7: Nick Sanchez
Nick Sanchez, Football, Senior | |
Oct. 9, 2007
Senior cornerback of the Stanford football team selected for the week of October 15-21.
Sanchez had a season-high nine tackles and also recorded an interception, a forced fumble and 1.0 tackle-for-loss in Stanford’s 21-20 victory at Arizona on October 20. Both of the turnovers Sanchez caused were key plays in the game. His interception midway through the first half with the Cardinal trailing 10-0 led to a subsequent touchdown, while his forced fumble late in the fourth quarter on the first play of an Arizona drive helped the Cardinal preserve its 21-20 advantage.
Sanchez’ selection is his first career Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor.
Stanford (3-4, 2-3 Pac-10) has won its last two Pac-10 games, as well as its last two road contests. The Cardinal is coming off a 21-20 victory at Arizona in its most recent game on October 20 and has won each of its last two contests by a single point with its last three games being decided by a total of just four points.
The Cardinal returns to action at Oregon State (4-3, 2-2 Pac-10) this Saturday, October 27 (3:30 pm, PT). The contest will not be televised live but Stanford’s audio account of the game featuring Dave Flemming and Bob Murphy in the booth with Mike McLaughlin on the sidelines can be heard live on KNBR 1050 AM and from a Yahoo! Sports link at gostanford.com.
