At Stanford: Perhaps no player in the history of Stanford football can make the claim Coy Wire can: team leader in both rushing and tackles ...While records do not verify this fact, certainly in modern times Stanford has not had a player who led the team in rushing and then, two years later, led the team in tackles ... Wire has done just that ... He led the team in rushing in 1998 and tackles in 2000 after being moved from running back to safety to inside linebacker ... Coy had started seven games at running back from 1998-99, but was moved to safety in the spring of 2000 and then to ILB in the fall of 2000... He was the team's starter at running back as a redshirt freshman in 1998 before a hand injury forced him to miss the final six games of the year ... He still finished the year as the team's leading rusher ... Started the first two games of the '99 season and was a key performer throughout the year ... Has rushed for 615 yards and scored six touchdowns in his Stanford career ... Now a full-time ILB, Coy brings with him a spirit and enthusiasm for the game that is matched by few on the team ... The 2000 Season:Started 10 games at inside linebacker and was named Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 ... He was among the league's top 10 in tackles (81 total, 7.4 tpg), sacks (tied for sixth with eight) and tackles for loss (tied for 10th with 14) ... He led the team in tackles and was second only to Riall Johnson in sacks and tackles for loss ... Made an immediate impact on the Cardinal defense ... In his first start at Washington State, he had six tackles, two for loss and one quarterback sack ... Named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against Arizona State in week 10 ... He had 10 tackles, including four for loss and three sacks - which were all season highs ... In the final four games of the year, he had 38 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, one interception and five pass break-ups ... The 1999 Season: Began the season as Stanford's starting running back ... Started the first two games of the year and played in all 12 ... Third on the team with 317 yards on 88 carries (3.6 ypc) ... Scored four rushing touchdowns to go along with four receptions for 32 yards ... Had a season-high 72 yards on nine carries and one touchdown vs. Washington ... His TD came on a five-yard run which gave Stanford a 7-0 lead ... He also had a 37-yard run vs. the Huskies ... Had 54 yards on five carries in Stanford's 50-22 win over Arizona ... Had a career-best 44-yard run which went for a touchdown against the Wildcats ... Rushed for 43-yards on eight carries against UCLA ... His other two touchdowns came on two-yard runs vs. both San Jose State and USC.

The 1998 Season: Although he started five games and played in just six, Coy still finished the season as the team's leading rusher ... A dislocated thumb forced him to miss the final five games of the season ... He also missed most of game #2 vs. Arizona with a bruised knee ... He started the season opener against San Jose State (13 carries, 27 yards, one reception), missed most of the Arizona game, then started the next four before being sidelined the remainder of the season with the thumb injury ... Finished the year with 298 yards rushing on 85 carries (3.5 ypc) and two touchdowns ... He caught 15 passes for 83 yards (tops among running backs) and returned 10 kicks for another 160 yards ... All but one carry came in the five games in which he started ... In those five starts, he averaged almost 60 yards rushing on 17 carries ... Posted season highs in carries (24) and yards rushing (77) in Stanford's win over North Carolina ... He also had five receptions for 39 yards and scored a TD on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter ... In High School: After suffering an injury in his junior season and receiving limited playing time, Coy came back to have a monster senior season in 1996 ... He rushed for 2,087 yards and 29 touchdowns on 334 carries and caught 23 passes for 456 yards and four more TDs ... A PrepStar All-American and All-Northeast selection by SuperPrep ... A Schutt Academic All-American ... Named Second-Team All-State, First-Team All-Mid-Peninsula and was chosen among the top 15 recruits in the state of Pennsylvania ...
