Matt Weiss will be in his fourth season at Stanford in 2008. For the previous three years, Weiss worked with defense and special teams as a graduate assistant while earning a master's degree in liberal arts from Stanford. In 2008, Weiss will serve in the newly created position of Defensive Assistant / Special Teams. Over the previous three seasons, Weiss assisted with Defensive Backs (2005), Linebackers (2006) and Defensive Line (2007). He was also responsible for all opponent offensive breakdowns, tendency reports, and scouting reports as well as the direction of the opponent offensive scout team during practice. In addition to his defensive duties, he worked closely with special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin in all aspects of Stanford's vastly improved special teams. As part of that role, he served as the position coach for the Stanford kickers, punters and long snappers.

Before coming to Stanford, Weiss played football at Vanderbilt University where he graduated magna cum laude in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and Human and Organizational Development. Weiss also served as an assistant football coach at Smyrna High School in Tennessee from 2003-2004. In addition to coaching wide receivers, defensive backs, and serving as special teams coordinator at Smyrna, Weiss established a tutoring program to help student-athletes achieve NCAA eligibility.

Originally from Cheshire, Conn., Weiss played quarterback at Hopkins School in New Haven, Conn., where he graduated in 2001 after leading his team to its first ever 12-0 record and New England Prep School Class C Championship.

Weiss currently resides in Menlo Park.
