Freshman Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Red Mountain) of the Stanford women's basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-11.
Pedersen made her collegiate debut one to remember as she provided a tough and steady inside presence for the No. 7/8 Cardinal in a season-opening 100-44 win at Yale Friday night, and then once more in Stanford’s 60-58 upset of then-No. 3/3 Rutgers Sunday night on ESPN. Against the Bulldogs, Pedersen scored 15 points and led the Cardinal with nine rebounds in the rout, but she saved her best for the national stage, once more scoring 15 points but also grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds against the 2007 national finalist Scarlet Knights. Through the first two games of her career, Pedersen is averaging 15.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game.
This is Pedersen’s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2007-08 season. Pedersen and the rest of the Stanford women's basketball team return to action Thursday, Nov. 15 as they host the USA Senior Women’s Basketball Team in exhibition action at Maples Pavilion.
