Stanford Moves on to West Region Final, 91-69

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Jamila Wideman had 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Kate Starbird scored 22 points as top seed Stanford cruised past fourth seed Virginia, 91-69, in the West Region semifinals at Missoula, Montana.

The Cardinal (32-1), who posted their 24th straight win, moved into the Elite Eight for the fourth consecutive season and for the eighth time in 11 tournament appearances. They will face Georgia in Monday's regional final for the right to go to the Final Four in Cincinnati.

Stanford built a 44-35 halftime lead, holding Virginia to 37 percent shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

"Virginia is a team that will not win or lose in the first half," said Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer. "Their defensive quickness gave us a problem early. Virginia is a great team, but we had a little more quickness tonight."

Starbird, who sprained her ankle in a first-round win over Howard, was 7-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from three-point range.

"My shot came back and my ankle feels a lot better," she said. "They don't have anything to do with each other."

Naomi Mulitauopele chipped in 13 points off the bench and Kristin Folkl had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinal.

Tora Suber paced Virginia (21-8) with 22 points and Monick Foote added 12.

Stanford defeated the Cavaliers for the third time in four meetings.
