Austin Staab Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Austin Staab (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville) of the Stanford men's swimming team has been selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Mar. 1-8. This is the first muscle milk honor for Staab this season and in his career.
Staab helped the Cardinal to their 28th consecutive Pac-10 men's swimming title. Staab claimed the individual Pac-10 title in the 100 fly as well as being a member of 200 medley relay that claimed the conference title. His time of 44.69 in the 100 fly was a Pac-10 record and less than one tenth off the NCAA record. He also helped the Cardinal team in the 200 free relay capture the Pac-10 record with a time of 1:15.54.
In the 800 free relay, Staab swam the opening leg in a time of 1:32.71, which established a Stanford record in the 200 free. The team went on to swim a time of 6:14.84, which was also a Stanford record. Staab was also a member of the 200 and 400 medley relays that established school records of 1:24.19 and 3:03.56.
Individually Staab finished as the Pac-10 runner-up in both the 50 free (19.23) and the 100 free (42.35). The time in the 100 free was the second fastest all-time for Stanford, while the time in the 50 free was the fourth fastest all-time.
Overall the Stanford sophomore established two individual school records (100 fly and 200 free) and was a member of four school-record breaking relays.
